RJ Hampton, a potential lottery pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, has injured his hip and is expected to miss the next four weeks, per ESPN’s Jonathan Givony.
RJ Hampton, a projected lottery pick in the 2020 NBA draft, will miss the next four weeks in Australian NBL with a hip injury, a source told ESPN.— Jonathan Givony (@DraftExpress) December 11, 2019
Hampton has been playing ball in Australia’s NBL and suffered the injury for the New Zealand Breakers last week, per the report. The 18-year-old had been averaging 9.5 points and 4.2 rebounds in 22 minutes per game so far this season. He was a big-time college prospect, but opted to go to the NBL as opposed to being a one-and-done. Fellow prospect LaMelo Ball is also over in the NBL and could go No. 1 overall in the 2020 NBA Draft.
Ball also suffered an injury to his foot and is expected to be back in early January, per Givony. The two were supposed to play each other on Dec. 22 when the Illawarra Hawks take on the Breakers. Unfortunately scouts won’t get that meeting, so they’ll likely have to wait things out.
