Ravens vs. Jets offers playoff, draft order implications on TNF

The final Thursday Night Football game of 2019 features one team looking to secure playoff positioning and the other thinking about its draft pick.

The NFL kicks off Week 15 with the final Thursday Night Football matchup of the season. Week 16 brings some Saturday football, but Thursdays are done until next fall.

This week we get the Baltimore Ravens hosting the New York Jets in a matchup of arguably the hottest team in the NFL against a team that is winning games of late — albeit against mostly sub-standard competition.

The Jets have shown some life, winning four of their last five. A blowout of the Raiders was impressive, but otherwise, wins over the Giants, Dolphins, and Washington coupled with a loss to the Bengals are not exactly something to write home about. The Jets are 5-8 and currently hold the ninth pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. They’re tied with the Chargers, Broncos, and Panthers, but with two 4-9 teams and five 6-7 teams, a lot can and will change in the draft order.

The Ravens have won nine straight and taken command of the AFC playoff picture. They hold the top seed and a one game lead over the Patriots. With a head-to-head win over New England, Baltimore effectively has a two-game lead for the top seed.

This week, Baltimore clinches the AFC North title with a win. They clinch a first round bye with a win and Patriots or Chiefs loss. And they can clinch home field throughout the AFC playoffs with a win and losses by both the Patriots and Chiefs.

To Make the Playoffs

Ravens: CLINCHED

Division winner

Ravens: OFF THE BOARD

AFC Champ

Ravens: +100 (next closest is New England at +250)

Super Bowl Champ

Ravens: +235 (next closest is New England at +450)
