Dec. 15, UPDATE: Doncic is likely to miss the next couple of weeks, per ESPN’s Tim MacMahon.
Luka Doncic might be able to return within a couple of weeks after suffering a moderate right ankle sprain last night, sources told ESPN. Doncic likely misses upcoming stretch vs. East power (Bucks, Celtics, 76ers and Raptors this week), but Mavs feel they dodged a bullet.— Tim MacMahon (@espn_macmahon) December 15, 2019
MacMahon is saying Luka is likely to miss this upcoming stretch of games this week, so we can assume he’ll be out through that timeline. It seems like it’s very week-to-week, so that’s sort of how we should take this. It’s not the best news but it could be worse. If you own Doncic in season-long, pick up Jalen Brunson ASAP. I told you to do it last night. If you’re reading this now, go! Stop reading. Go pick him up. What are you waiting for?
We already know Luka won’t play Monday vs. the Milwaukee Bucks and he isn’t traveling with the team to get further treatment.

UPDATE: Doncic has a moderate ankle sprain, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

UPDATE: Right now it appears Doncic is dealing with an ankle sprain, though ESPN’s Tim MacMahon was able to shed some light on the situation.
Only confirmed details are that X-rays were negative and it’s a sprained right ankle for Luka Doncic. It’s concerning that he grabbed the high ankle area while down. https://t.co/00UNlx6VGL— Tim MacMahon (@espn_macmahon) December 15, 2019
From the looks of it, Doncic could be dealing with a high ankle sprain, which isn’t great. Normally, a high ankle sprain means an extended absence, plus I think the Mavericks will be cautious with Luka, of course. They don’t want him risky further injury.
With that said, go ahead and pick up Jalen Brunson. He played 34 minutes in the OT loss to the Heat and posted strong numbers (18-8-7). He’ll likely be a chalk DFS play moving forward until his price adjusts a bit, though we don’t know if/how long Luka will be out.
Good news: X-Rays were negative.— Saad Yousuf (@SaadYousuf126) December 15, 2019
Bad news: Luka is done for the night.
Doncic hobbled to the locker room early in Saturday night’s game vs. the Heat and unfortunately he won’t be able to come back for the rest of the game. This is a huge blow for Dallas, though it is encouraging that Doncic’s X-rays came back negative, so the worst case is it’s a bad sprain. Still, it’ll hurt Doncic’s chances of playing Monday vs. the Milwaukee Bucks, a huge spot.
Fantasy Basketball Analysis: Dallas Mavericks PG/SF Luka Doncic
With Doncic out the rest of the game, we should see a lot of Delon Wright at point guard. He’ll be the primary ball-handler and distributor. From there, we should see more Seth Curry as well, plus Jalen Brunson will likely get more run. This will make the Mavs lineup a bit smaller, which hurts them in the long run vs. Miami. Right now, Dallas is down by a lot, so it’ll be tough for the Mavs to come back.
UPDATE: If Doncic is to miss any time, it appears Brunson is the guy to scoop up. He started the second half in place of Doncic and played 34 minutes, finishing with 18 points, eight assists and seven rebounds. Wright only played nine minutes, while Curry played 19 minutes. Coach Rick Carlisle went with a very tight rotation, so I’d imagine he sticks with Brunson for the bulk of the PG minutes.
BIf Doncic is to miss time,
