How to handle Damien Williams’ injury in Week 15 fantasy football

The Kansas City backfield situation may become more complicated with the potential return of Damien Williams in Week 15.

Damien Williams was able to get in two limited practices on Wednesday and Thursday this week before posting a DNP on Friday as he continues to recover from a rib injury. His official status for Sunday is listed as questionable.

The Chief’s backfield has been difficult to figure out over the course of the season, and it only became more complicated with the addition of Spencer Ware in Week 14. The backfield targets were distributed as follows: LeSean McCoy 11 for 39 yards, Spencer Ware five for 11 yards, and Darwin Thompson four for seven yards. Nobody found much room to run against the Patriots, but they have an easier match-up this week against the Denver Broncos.

Fantasy football analysis: Kansas City Chief’s running back Damien Williams

The limited practices at the beginning of the week looked promising for those who hoped to see Damien Williams return in Week 15, but the DNP on Friday is concerning. Even if Williams were to suit up this weekend, it is a crowded backfield and the distribution of touches could be unpredictable. As with all rib injuries, there would also be the risk of a setback should Williams take a hard hit and be unable to finish the game. With the season on the line in the fantasy playoffs, Williams is too risky of a play to put into your starting lineup.

If there is any Chiefs running back worth taking a chance on it would be LeSean McCoy, who is involved in both the run and passing game, but in standard leagues there are likely better options out there.
