Jalen Brunson must-add on NBA waiver wire with Luka Doncic out

Point guard started second half for Luka after he left Saturday night. If you haven’t, you need to add Brunson in season-long.

Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic went down with an ankle injury Saturday night and did not return to an eventual OT loss to the Miami Heat. Doncic is likely to miss the next couple weeks, per ESPN’s Tim MacMahon, so we know Luka will at least be out for the next handful of games. With that, Jalen Brunson is in a great spot to step up in both DFS and fantasy basketball leagues.

Fantasy Basketball Waiver Wire Advice: Dallas Mavericks PG Jalen Brunson

Right now on ESPN, Brunson is at 1.3% owned. This is a bit surprising considering we knew last night Doncic was dealing with a moderate sprain, so it was expected for Luka to at least miss a game or two. Last night after Doncic left, Brunson stepped into the starting five to start the third quarter and had a great game, finishing with 18 points eight assists and seven rebounds in 34 minutes. That was good for 19 fantasy points, which isn’t even his highest output the past five games.

Brunson has incredible per 36 minute statistics this season. He’s averaging 17.3 points, 6.2 assists and 5.4 rebounds per 36 with a 8.5 +/- in 25 games played. Brunson should jump into the starting lineup this week, though the schedule is brutal. Dallas starts things off with a road matchup vs. the Milwaukee Bucks, then head home to face the Boston Celtics, then back on the road for games vs. the Philadelphia 76ers and Toronto Raptors. Regardless, Brunson is set to see around 30 minutes per game and should have decent usage running the offense.
