DeShaun Watson threw two interceptions at the Titans one-yard line, but he did enough to help his team grab a big win in Tennessee over the Titans. Coming into this matchup, the Texans held a slim tie breaker lead over the surging Titans in the AFC South, with both teams tied at 8-5.
Now at 9-5 the Texans hold a one-game lead over the Titans but the two teams meet again in two weeks in Houston. The Titans do have a tougher game next week as they face the Saints while the Texans take on the Buccaneers. Now, they need to win their last two games while the Texans lose their last two to assure the AFC South crown.
Carlos Hyde was the engine behind the Texans offense this week, as he ran 23 times for 101 yards and a touchdown, somewhat offsetting Watson’s costly interceptions. DeAndre Hopkins was also solid, catching six passes for 119 yards but Kenny Stills was the touchdown maker with two scores on his three receptions.
Ryan Tannehill wasn’t quite as good as he had been coming into this game but he did end up putting up good numbers. He threw for 279 yards, two touchdowns and an interception while adding a rushing touchdown much to the enjoyment of fantasy footballers who started him in their playoffs.
A loss to the Saints next week will mean the Texans must win in Houston and get help from the Steelers and others. As for the Texans, they are sitting pretty, but they can’t coast, as they need to beat Tampa Bay on the road and hope for the Saints to take care of the Titans to secure the AFC South.
