Luka Doncic, Giannis injuries could shake up 2019-2020 NBA MVP race

Studs with top 2 odds to win award currently dealing with injuries entering Week 9. We take a look at how the lines on DraftKings Sportsbook have moved.

This past week has been filled with injuries — incredibly impactful injuries. The most recent was Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic, who injured his ankle Saturday vs. the Miami Heat. Doncic is expected to miss a couple weeks and this could put a damper on his case to win NBA MVP if he loses ground. Giannis Antetokounmpo’s injury is less serious, but still worth noting. The Milwaukee Bucks enter Week 9 on an 18-game winning streak, but Giannis was held out of his first game of the season due to a quad injury. He may pop up on the injury report, but it seems he’s OK to play heading into this week. We would have been gifted a matchup of Giannis vs. Doncic and then Giannis vs. LeBron James, but 1-for-2 is still shooting 50%.

For some reason, James Harden isn’t getting nearly as much love as he should be in the NBA MVP race. If he keeps this up (which would be tough, I know), Harden could finish the season averaging 40 points per game. The only other player to ever do that is Wilt Chamberlain, who went over 40 PPG in back-to-back seasons from 1961-1963. Harden is currently holding down third at 39.2 PPG this season. So not only could Harden have one of the best scoring seasons ever, but the Rockets are right in the playoff race in the West and could finish as a top 4 team. Sounds like MVP material to me.

Let’s take a look at the top 10 players with the best odds to win NBA MVP on DraftKings Sportsbook:
