Dalvin Cook injures shoulder again, status for Week 16 uncertain

Dalvin Cook wasn’t able to return from his shoulder injury in Week 15. Who are his backups and are they worth grabbing off the waiver wire?

Dalvin Cook hurt his shoulder in the third quarter against the Chargers and did not return in Week 15. He has been dealing with a shoulder injury for a couple weeks now and this was the same shoulder. He appeared to be in significant pain as he held his arm close to his body and gingerly walked off the field after the injury.

The Vikings are sitting pretty in the wild card race at the moment and Mike Boone showed well in Cook’s absence, so the team probably shouldn’t push Cook to play, especially as this injury seems to keep knocking him out of games. But at the moment, the severity of this injury is unknown.

Alexander Mattison was out this week with an ankle injury but there is a chance he could return in Week 16. Boone looked good scoring two touchdowns against the Chargers and is the third-string running back. They have talent and if Mattison can return, he would probably take over the lead role. At this point, both Boone and Mattison need to be picked up, at least until we hear more definitive word.

The Packers are next on the Vikings docket and have been weak against the run. In Week 2, Cook ran for 154 yards and a touchdown against Green Bay and whoever gets the start in Week 16, is worth starting in fantasy.
