UPDATE: Well that was fast ... AD will play against the Bucks.
AD will play against the Bucks, per Lakers— Bill Oram (@billoram) December 19, 2019
With this news, Dudley should go back to the bench and the Lakers will have their normal starting lineup in a huge matchup between the two top teams in the NBA. This means the Lakers line at 4.5 is very appealing unless AD is going to be held back, but I can’t imagine that will be the case. I think he’s fine to roll out in all formats. I wouldn’t really want to play Howard of McGee in DFS with the AD news.
UPDATE: Davis is a game-time decision for Thursday night vs. the Bucks, per coach Frank Vogel.
Frank Vogel says he will check in with Anthony Davis after his pregame workout to determine if he’ll play versus Milwaukee or not.— Dave McMenamin (@mcten) December 19, 2019
So we’ll have to wait and see on AD but we do know Kuzma is out. Rondo should also be able to play. If Davis comes back, it’s a downgrade to Jared Dudley and Dwight Howard. It’d also impact the betting lines on DK Sportsbook a bit. Right now the Bucks are favored by 4.5 points, but I imagine things could get closer if AD is going to play. Stay tuned.
UPDATE: Davis is officially listed as questionable for Thursday’s game vs. the Bucks. Rajon Rondo (hamstring) is probable while Kyle Kuzma remains out.
#Lakers injury update for tomorrow’s game against the Bucks: Kyle Kuzma (left ankle sprain) is out, Anthony Davis (right ankle sprain) is questionable, and Rajon Rondo (left hamstring strain) is probable.— Matthew Moreno (@MMoreno1015) December 18, 2019
UPDATE #5: Davis is “hopeful” to return to the lineup Thursday night for a big matchup vs. the Milwaukee Bucks.
Anthony Davis went on the Dan Patrick Show and was asked if he’s playing tomorrow in Milwaukee. “Hopefully,” he said. “That’s the plan. See how the ankle feels.”— Tania Ganguli (@taniaganguli) December 18, 2019
AD said this himself, so it’s hard to take it as concrete. He’ll likely still be listed as questionable heading into Thursday, but we’ll find that out on the 5:30 p.m. ET injury report later Wednesday. If that’s the case, we’ll have to wait and see. JaVale McGee, Dwight Howard and Jared Dudley would continue to eat up front court minutes if AD is out again.
UPDATE #4: Dudley will start in place of AD tonight, so he’s a decent value as I alluded to below. Don’t expect much, but he should see at least 20 minutes in a competitive game.
Jared Dudley starting in place of Anthony Davis tonight. Dudley averages 1.6 points, as opposed to Davis' 27.4.— Mark Montieth (@MarkMontieth) December 17, 2019
UPDATE #3: Well that was fast. Instead of being a game-time call, the Lakers have ruled AD out for Tuesday night’s game at Indiana.
The Lakers say that Anthony Davis (ankle) is out tonight vs. IND.— Dave McMenamin (@mcten) December 17, 2019
SO with AD out and Kyle Kuzma also not expected to play, we should see a ton of JaVale McGee and Dwight Howard tonight against the Pacers. McGee is a great GPP and cash-game value play on DraftKings at $3,900. He’ll likely be very highly owned. Howard is more of a GPP pivot at $4,000. If you’re crazy and want the savings, Jared Dudley could play a decent amount (15-20 minutes), but doesn’t have much upside. LeBron James on the otherhand is now the top tournament play at $10,900 in my eyes.
UPDATE #2: Davis is considered a game-time decision for Tuesday vs. the Pacers.
Anthony Davis (ankle) is a game time decision tonight against the Pacers.— Mike Trudell (@LakersReporter) December 17, 2019
UPDATE: Davis is officially being listed as questionable to play Tuesday vs. the Pacers.
Anthony Davis, who turned his right ankle late in Sunday’s win over Atlanta, is “trying to play” in Tuesday’s game in IND, a league source tells ESPN. He’s approaching his treatment with the goal of being in the lineup as the Lakers try for their 15th straight road win.— Dave McMenamin (@mcten) December 16, 2019
Davis rolled his ankle late in Sunday’s win over the Atlanta Hawks and was noticeably limping the rest of the game. His status is up in the air for tomorrow, plus he’s been dealing with a shoulder issue for what seems like the past month now.
Fantasy Basketball Analysis: Los Angeles Lakers PF Anthony Davis
If Davis were to miss Tuesday’s game, LeBron James is the clear way to pivot in DFS. Depending on his price, LeBron would be considered a top cash-game play and still viable in GPPs despite the potential for high ownership. Outside of that, it’s not so clear. Kyle Kuzma has been out, otherwise he’d probably slide into the starting lineup at PF. If Davis and Kuz are out, we’d likely see more Dwight Howard or the Lakers would opt for smaller lineups with LeBron at PF and three guards.
