Who to claim off waivers if Greg Zuerlein does not play

It’s championship weekend in fantasy football. We’ve got some options in case Greg The Leg does not play in Week 16.

The Los Angeles Rams wrapped up their second practice of Week 16, and kicker Greg Zuerlein remains sidelined with a right quad injury. The team will practice on Thursday and release their final injury report, at which point we’ll get a better handle on Zuerlein’s status for Saturday against the San Francisco 49ers.

The Rams are working out kickers this week, but if you have Zuerlein and he does not play, there should be plenty of options available on your waiver wire. It’s fantasy football championship weekend in most leagues, and every point will be critical. Some players available in more than 50 percent of ESPN leagues include:

Younghoe Koo, Falcons: vs. Jaguars
Jason Myers, Seahawks: vs. Cardinals
Dan Bailey, Vikings: vs. Packers
Nick Folk, Patriots: vs. Bills
Zane Gonzalez, Cardinals: @ Seahawks
Chris Boswell, Steelers: @ Jets

From that group, Gonzalez and Boswell have had the best seasons thus far, while Koo and Myers have the highest projections for Week 16. Koo has a foot injury, so that would be another player to wait on as the injury reports arrive later this week.

We’ll know Zuerlein’s final status by 6:45 p.m. on Saturday. Since it is the final week in most leagues, you can be comfortable releasing Zuerlein to make room for another kicker. The only exception might be in deeper dynasty leagues where you keep a kicker each year.
