The San Francisco 49ers lost a tough one to the Baltimore Ravens in Week 13, but we saw an eye-opening performance from running Raheem Mostert. Although Tevin Coleman is the 49ers starter, Mostert out-touched him in a big way and out-performed him in an even bigger way. Mostert rushed 19 times for 146 yards and a touchdown and added two receptions for eight yards. Coleman had five rushes for six yards and a nine-yard reception.
Mostert got extra run this week because Matt Breida was sidelined with a sprained ankle. Breida normally serves in the complement role, with Mostert getting a handful of snaps and otherwise focusing on special teams.
Fantasy football waiver wire advice: 49ers RB Raheem Mostert
Mostert is going to be a popular waiver wire pickup heading into Week 14. If Breida sits next week against the New Orleans Saints, there’s some value to be had in Mostert. However, Breida is expected to play and that will create all sorts of questions in the 49ers backfield. Even if Coleman is losing his starting job, Breida is good enough that I don’t think we’d see Mostert just handed the starting role next week.
Mostert is worth adding given Breida’s injury history, but you should be wary about expecting starter touches week-in and week-out from Mostert.
