UPDATE: The Texans beat the Bucs 23-20 to clinch the AFC South.
The Buccaneers are out of the playoff race despite playing some good football of late and getting robbed in Seattle, but that’s the way the NFL works. The Texans, on the other hand, beat the Titans last week to up their odds of winning the AFC South.
Houston has been a Jekyll and Hyde team of late, beating good teams and losing to bad ones, but they hold their playoff hopes in their own hands, as a win this week, or next, secures them the division title. They could still completely miss the playoffs if they lose both games and the Steelers and Titans win out. That scenario isn’t crazy but according to FiveThirtyEight, they have a 99 percent chance of making the playoffs as of today.
The Texans could still move up to the 3rd or even 2nd seed if they win out and the Patriots and Chiefs completely falter, but at this point, they need to take care of business and win the East.
To Make the Playoffs
Texans: Off the board
Division winner
Texans: -910 to win AFC East (Titans next at +600)
AFC Champ
Texans: +1600
Super Bowl Champ
Texans: +3500
