Rams-49ers game offers playoff implications in Week 16

The Rams and 49ers square off in a NFC West battle and the stakes couldn’t be much higher.

UPDATE: The 49ers beat the Rams 34-31 and eliminated LA from playoff contention. The 49ers improve to 12-3 and set up a huge Week 17 game for the NFC West.

Rams still cling to some hope of making the playoffs after getting blown out by Dallas last week while the 49ers can still take the No. 1 seed and all its riches despite losing at home to Atlanta last week.

As you can see, the odds are not in the Rams favor. They will need to go into San Francisco and beat a team they could barely move against at home earlier in the season and then beat Arizona while the Vikings will need to lose their last two games to the Packers and Bears.

If the 49ers can win out, they get the No. 1 seed. They need to beat the Rams to stay tied in the win/loss column with the Saints and they need to beat the Seahawks to knock them out of the NFC West top spot. If they lose either game, they are likely stuck with the 5th or 6th seed and will travel to take on the 3rd or 4th seed.

The odds still favor the Seahawks to win out over the Cardinals and then the 49ers at home, but both teams just need to win and don’t need to worry about needing any help.
