The Buffalo Bills defense is coming off an impressive performance against the Pittsburgh Steelers in which they recorded a season-high four interceptions, one fumble recovery, and four sacks while allowing only 10 points. This total of 19 fantasy points more than doubled their season average of 8.8 points. They look to build on this stat line in Week 16, but they face a much more formidable opponent in Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. We break down the fantasy implications below.
Fantasy football advice, Buffalo Bills D/ST
The New England Patriots are no longer the “avoid at all costs” offense that they have been in recent years, however they are far from an ideal match-up for a fantasy D/ST. Of the last five teams to face the New England Patriots, only the Kansas City Chiefs were able to reach double-digits with 10 points. Three of those five teams were held under five points.
Though the Patriots have not been dominating on offense to the level they have in previous years, they still average 26.6 points per game, they are a disciplined team, they protect their quarterback well, and they don’t make many mistakes. The Bills are also at a disadvantage as playing the Patriots in Foxborough is notoriously challenging. These things all limit the upside of playing a D/ST against them.
That being said, the Buffalo Bills D/ST has been playing better as a unit than any of the five previous teams that New England has faced. If a team with low ownership like the Denver Broncos or the Kansas City Chiefs is available to stream this week, you may be better off going with them, but these streamers may have already been picked up in some leagues. The Bills are by no means a must start, but they may be the best option available in some situations.
