Jimmy Garoppolo came crashing back down to earth in Week 15 as he completed 22 of 34 passes for only 200 yards and one touchdown against a middling Atlanta Falcons defense. He finished the game with 12.6 points, just one week after a performance which saw him throw for 349 yards and four touchdowns against the New Orleans Saints. Garoppolo has managed to keep fantasy managers guessing this season, as he has only been able to achieve back to back performances over 18 fantasy points one time this year. Can Jimmy be trusted in Week 16 against a Rams pass defense that ranks within the top 10 in the NFL? We break down the fantasy implications below.
Fantasy football analysis, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo
The Los Angeles Rams are allowing an average of 220 yards per game, and have allowed 20 passing touchdowns on the season, while recording nine interceptions. They have recorded 43 sacks and allow an average of 62% completion rate. Over the past five games, the Rams defense have only allowed performances over 15 fantasy points to two quarterbacks: Dak Prescott (17.7) and the invincible Lamar Jackson (36.3 points). Each of these quarterbacks ranks within the top five fantasy quarterbacks on the season, which is a far reach from Garoppolo’s position at No. 14 on the year. They held both Kyler Murray and Russel Wilson to less than 14 points in that stretch. Given Garoppolo’s inconsistencies and the Rams strong performances against more elite quarterbacks, it’s hard to be confident in the 49ers QB in the fantasy football championship week.
