Betting split update

Hawaii is playing host in the Sofi Hawaii Bowl, but the betting public is backing BYU. 68 percent of the handle and 74 percent of the tickets bet on the point spread are backing BYU at -2.5. In an interesting twist, the split on the money line is much closer. BYU still has the edge, but it’s only 56 percent of the handle and 51 percent of tickets bet. I suspect if you’re betting the money line, you figure why not go with the outright upset by the home Warriors.

The betting public expects a shootout with 73 percent of the handle and tickets bet are over the point total of 64.

Before heading to bed on Christmas Eve, be sure to check out the Hawaii Warriors and BYU Cougars in the Hawaii Bowl.

BYU has had an interesting season to say the least, especially in the first half of the season. After wins over Tennessee and USC, BYU lost three straight to Washington, Toledo and USF before giving Boise State its lone loss of the season.

So as you can tell, this Cougars team is tough to figure out, and the same could be said for Hawaii with its turnovers. With a -14 turnover differential, it’s pretty impressive Hawaii comes into this game at 9-5.

Game Time/TV Channel/Streaming

The Sofi Hawai’i Bowl will begin at 8:00 p.m. ET in Honolulu, Hawaii on Tuesday, Dec. 24 and can be seen on ESPN and WatchESPN.

Point Spread, Totals, Odds, Trends

Spread: BYU (-2) vs. Hawaii
Point Total: 63.5 O/U (-110)
Money line: BYU (-129), Hawaii (+106)

- BYU is 2-7 against the spread in its last nine games.

- The total has gone over in six of Hawaii’s last nine games.

The Best Bet

I think Hawaii gets it done here. Although the turnovers are a huge issue for this team, I think this offense is good enough to score a ton of points on BYU, especially if Hawaii can get going early. This would get BYU out of its rhythm offensively and defensively. A big passing day is coming for Hawaii quarterbacks, and I’d even take Hawaii on the moneyline because the Rainbow Warriors are winning this one outright.

Pick: Hawaii +2
