Best lineup strategy for Packers vs. Vikings in Week 16 MNF Showdown

Week 16’s Monday night NFL Showdown contest features the Green Bay Packers at the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings are 5.5-point favorites on DraftKings Sportbook, and the game has been given a total points of 47. The 2019 league average points scored per game is about 46 points, so this game is expected to be a tick higher scoring than average.

Notable injuries for this game include Vikings RB Dalvin Cook (chest), who has been ruled out. Vikings RB Alexander Mattison (ankle) is questionable, so fantasy owners will need to check back for his status prior to lock.

Here are some players that fantasy owners can consider using in Showdown contests on DraftKings on Monday night.

CAPTAIN OBVIOUS

Davante Adams ($17,100 CP; $11,400 FLEX)

Since returning from injury in Week 9, Adams has seen double digit targets in five of six games. Adams has seen a strong amount of red zone targets recently, which has contributed to four receiving TDs over his last four games. Adams will be in good position to utilize his plus volume against a below average Vikings secondary. The Vikings have allowed the ninth most DraftKings fantasy points to WR and have allowed more passing yards than average. Adams has scored at least 19 DraftKings fantasy points in four of his last five games, giving him both a solid floor and ceiling.

CAPTAIN COURAGEOUS

Aaron Jones ($16,200 CP; $10,800 FLEX)

Jones has been hit-or-miss lately and faces a better-than-average run defense in the Vikings, which gives him some degree of risk. Jones has scored single digit DraftKings fantasy points in three of his last six games, and Minnesota has limited running backs to the ninth fewest DraftKings fantasy points. However, Jones also carries big upside, scoring 27 or more DKFP four times this season, including in Week 2 against the Vikings, where he rushed for an efficient 5.04 yards per carry and got into the end zone. Jones ranks 13th among RBs in red zone carries and has received 60% of the Packers’ red zone rushing attempts, and his 14 rushing TDs is tied with Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey for most in the NFL, giving Jones TD upside.

FLEX MEN

Mike Boone ($9,000 FLEX; $13,500 CP)

Dalvin Cook (chest) is out, and with the Vikings having already clinched a playoff spot, Minnesota could elect to hold out Alexander Mattison (ankle) as well, which would give Boone clearance for expanded snap and touch volume. Boone saw 13 touches last week after Cook was injured and rushed for a respectable 4.31 yards per carry. Most importantly, Boone saw monstrous red zone usage, getting six red zone touches and converting two of those into touchdowns. If Mattison is ultimately held out of the game, Boone becomes a quality fantasy option, especially against a Packers run defense that has allowed the eighth most DraftKings fantasy points to RB. Check back for more on Mattison’s status prior to kickoff.

Adam Thielen ($8,600 FLEX; $12,900 CP)

Thielen’s fantasy value has dropped off lately after being hampered with a hamstring injury. Thielen made his return to the field last week after missing extended time, but saw just three targets and played on only 51% of the Vikings’ offensive snaps. However, the Vikings had little reason to push Thielen last week given the score of the game, and Thielen is a bounce-back candidate this week provided a more normal workload. The Packers have allowed more passing yards than average, and Thielen’s ownership rate in DraftKings tournaments could be on the lower side due to his recent absence combined with last week’s poor fantasy performance. Thielen scored six TDs in seven games prior to his hamstring injury and carries TD upside when healthy.
