UPDATE: Payton made his Wizards debut Monday night vs. the New York Knicks and made an immediate fantasy basketball impact. He nearly posted a triple-double, scoring 10 points with 11 rebounds, five assists and five steals in 31 minutes in the victory. It all added up to 42.25 fantasy points on DraftKings, though Payton wasn’t added to the contest and didn’t have a price. The five steals were fitting for The Mitten, reminiscent of his Dad, former Seattle Super Sonics great Gary Payton aka The Glove.

Still, we can expect him to make it in there for the next slate the Wizards are on. Payton isn’t a bad waiver wire pickup in very deeper formats. Im talking like a 14-team league or something. He’s got good basketball genes in him, so maybe if he carves out a role with the Wizards he can figure it out.

The Washington Wizards signed G Gary Payton II to a contract on Monday. Payton was brought in from the Los Angeles Lakers’ G League squad, where he was averaging 21.4 points, 9.5 rebounds and 6.8 assists per game in 16 games this season. The Wizards are currently down eight rotation players, including seven to injury and Isaiah Thomas being suspended for the next two games. Payton could eventually carve out a role for Washington considering how gaudy his numbers were in the G League.
