A.J. Green finally goes on injured reserve after suffering an ankle injury in preseason. Yes, he was injured before the season began and stayed on the active roster for 16 weeks for some reason. Setbacks, specialists, possible drama, nothing good came out of Green’s lost 2019 campaign.

Green is a pending free agent and the Bengals had the worst record in the league most of the season, so playing wasn’t an advantageous move for Green but it’s impossible to know how much that played a part in his inability to suit up this year. Green says he would accept the franchise tag if that’s the way the Bengals go, but there’s also a chance they let him walk in free agency after a string of injuries have sidelined him over the last four seasons.

He would likely end up going to a contender on a contract that is incentive laden due to his recent injury history. The Patriots come to mind, but when healthy, Green is still a top talent and will be sought after.
