The Philadelphia Eagles are releasing running back Jay Ajayi because they expect Jordan Howard to return in Week 17, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Howard injured his shoulder in Week 9 and has been sidelined since. He has been able to take part in limited work, but had not been cleared for contact. Schefter’s report would indicate he has been cleared for contact.

Fantasy football analysis: Eagles RB Jordan Howard

If you had a fantasy championship in Week 16, you’re probably shaking your head at this news. If you have a Week 17 championship or are looking at DFS this weekend, you have to decide how much work you expect Howard to get. Miles Sanders has been the starter in Howard’s absence and has impressed in recent weeks, rushing for a combined 201 yards and two touchdowns the past two weeks. Howard is likely not worth starting this weekend, but if you want a home run shot, there’s a chance he ends up a touchdown-dependent option.
