New York Knicks PG Dennis Smith Jr. is gaining interest on the trade market, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported Friday. Apparently multiple teams have called the Knicks asking about DSJ, who was one of the centerpieces of the Kristaps Porzingis trade from New York to the Dallas Mavericks a few seasons ago.
Smith, who is in his third NBA season out of NC State, is still only 22 years old and would garner some interest from a team who wants to add depth at guard and a reclamation project of sorts. DSJ isn’t currently getting much playing time in the Knicks’ rotation, averaging just 5.2 points in 16.1 minutes per game in 2019-20. Smith has also been dealing with injuries, which may make it hard to trade him currently. We’ll see if he gains some more interest in the months leading up to the NBA Trade Deadline in February.
