What to do with Gus Edwards, Justice Hill in Week 17 fantasy football

The Ravens will sit running back Mark Ingram in Week 17. We break down the fantasy football implications for Gus Edwards and Justice Hill.

The Ravens have clinched the top seed and home field in the AFC playoffs, and combined with Mark Ingram dealing a calf injury, Baltimore has elected to hold Ingram out of their Week 17 matchup vs. the Steelers. Ingram’s absence will open up significantly expanded roles for the rest of the Baltimore backfield, which includes Gus Edwards ($4,800) and Justice Hill ($4,600). Edwards has out-snapped Hill this season by about a 2-to-1 ratio and has a similar red zone touch ratio over Hill, which makes Edwards appear to be best suited for Week 17 fantasy production.

Fantasy football analysis: Baltimore Ravens RBs Gus Edwards and Justice Hill

Edwards has excellent rushing efficiency stats, averaging 5.2 yards per carry both in 2019 and for his career, much better than the league average of 4.3 yards per carry. Hill’s 3.9 yards per carry is below average. However, despite playing on less snaps, Hill has seen more targets out of the backfield than Edwards, which is notable given DraftKings awards one fantasy point per reception. If Hill is able to record a few more catches than Edwards, it could help compensate for less snaps, although Edwards still remains the better target in DraftKings contests this week because he appears set to log more snaps.

This is not a great fantasy matchup, as the Steelers have limited running backs to the fourth fewest DraftKings fantasy points (DKFP). The game’s total points of 37 on DraftKings Sportsbook is also one of the lowest on the Week 17 schedule, so this game appears set to be low-scoring. That said, Edwards is affordable at $4,800 on DraftKings and makes for a salary relief option at RB, which can help fantasy owners invest more elsewhere on their DraftKings rosters.
