Best lineup strategy for Trail Blazers-Clippers DraftKings Showdown

The Blazers head to LA to take on the Clippers coming off three straight wins. We break down the top options for Tuesday’s Showdown contest on DraftKings.

The Portland Trail Blazers are Carmelo Anthony’s team. Now, that statement is ridiculous, I know, because Damian Lillard is still a basketball player. But Melo has had a resurgence for the Blazers and is a big reason why they’ve won three straight games to get to 8-12. Nothing against Dame, I was mostly joking, please Dame forgive me! But the Blazers will have a tough task tonight competing with Kawhi Leonard and Paul George in LA against the Clippers. We’re going to break down tonight’s featured Showdown contest on DraftKings.

Who is the obvious choice at Captain?

We’ve got three appealing high-priced options in Kawhi Leonard ($15,900), Damian Lillard ($15,600) and Paul George ($15,000). If I’m picking between the three, I think I like PG the best given the savings and his ceiling. George could have Melo or even Rodney Hood trying to guard him for most of this game, which is ideal. Kawhi and Dame will have high ownership and I also think lineups may look to pay down in the Captain’s Spot (cough, cough, Melo at $11,400).

Who is a contrarian option as Captain?

I normally like to pay down in this spot and pay up at FLEX for a few studs. Patrick Beverley ($8,400) isn’t a fantasy stud, but should see a ton of minutes trying to contain Dame and CJ McCollum tonight. The Blazers are poor on defense, so that could open up more scoring and assist opportunities for Pat Bev. Maurice Harkless ($3,900) would be a reach in the Captain’s spot because his ceiling isn’t very high, but would give us the necessary savings to FLEX Kawhi, PG-13 and Dame.

How else should I fill out my lineup?

I think an all-out Clipper stack isn’t a bad ideal. You can throw Pat Bev in there at Captain and then FLEX Kawhi ($10,600), PG ($10,000) and Lou Williams ($8,200) pretty easily. Plus, you’d still have $6,400 on average to fill out the last two spots. Hassan Whiteside ($9,600) is also in play and gives you some differentiation in the lineup. Rodney Hood ($6,400) would be my sleeper FLEX, he’s been shooting the ball well and the Blazers may need to dig themselves out of a hole if the Clips go up.
