The Florida Gators won the 2019 Orange Bowl, but if you backed the Virginia Cavaliers at around +14.5 on the point spread, you breathed a late sigh of relief.
Florida kicked a field goal to take a 15-point lead with 2:32 remaining, which would have covered for most Florida bettors. However, Virginia quickly marched down the field and was inside the red zone with under a minute to play. With a little over 55 seconds remaining, quarterback Bryce Perkins threw what looked to be a backwards pass to lineman Bobby Haskins who scored a 9-yard touchdown. However, upon further review, it was deemed a pass to an ineligible receiver and the score was taken off the board.
Shortly after that, however, Perkins found Hasise Dubois wide open in the end zone for the score. Virginia lost 36-28, but it was the kind of finish that will leave Florida bettors muttering to themselves and Virginia bettors laughing over drinks.
