Indianapolis Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri has struggled in a big way this season, and the team appears set to consider some alternatives. The Colts announced on Wednesday that they have claimed kicker Chase McLaughlin off waivers from the San Francisco 49ers.
Vinatieri went 1-for-4 this past week, including have a field goal attempt blocked and run back for a touchdown. For the season, he has converted 68 percent of his kicks (17 of 25), which is far and away the lowest percentage of his career.
McLaughlin spent three games with the 49ers while Robbie Gould was sidelined with a quad injury. McLaughlin converted seven of eight field goals and all eight extra point attempts. Prior to his stint with the 49ers, McLaughlin spent four games with the Los Angeles Chargers while Michael Badgley was sidelined. He converted six of nine field goals and all seven extra points. He entered the league as a UDFA this past offseason.
It’s safe to say Vinatieri is on the hot seat.
