UPDATE: Anthony Joshua beat Andy Ruiz via unanimous decision. Joshua won on scores of 118-110, 118-110, and 119-109.
Six months ago, Andy Ruiz shocked the world when he upset heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua at Madison Square Garden. Ruiz entered the fight an 11/1 underdog and won via TKO in the seventh round. He dropped Joshua four times en route to becoming the first Mexican heavyweight champion in boxing history.
It was arguably the biggest upset in boxing since Buster Douglas knocked out Mike Tyson in 1990. However, when they meet up on Saturday in Saudi Arabia for the rematch, a Ruiz win will not be nearly as big an upset. Ruiz is still an underdog, but DraftKings Sportsbook has him listed as a +170 underdog. Joshua is a -230 favorite. Six months ago, Joshua was a -2500 favorite.
This fight is not expected to go the distance. Joshua is even money to win via stoppage while Ruiz’s odds to win via KO, TKO, or DQ are +240. Joshua winning on the scorecard is +333 and Ruiz doing so is +1200. You can get a draw at +2800.
The fight is scheduled for Saturday, December 7th in Saudi Arabia at the UNESCO World Heritage site of Diriyah — on the northwestern outskirts of the capital city of Riyadh. The timing means the main event is scheduled to get started at approximately 3:45 p.m. ET.
