Banana boat buddies will go head-to-head on tonight’s 10-game slate when the Los Angeles Lakers (19-3) take on the Portland Trail Blazer (9-13). LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony will face each other for the first time since Oct. 20, 2018, when Melo was with the Rockets. But this matchup feels a bit more meaningful given Anthony’s play with the Blazers so far this season. It should be an exciting matchup so let’s take a look at the betting lines on DraftKings Sportsbook:
Lakers vs. Trail Blazers spread, over/under, money line
Spread: Trail Blazers (+4)
Money line: Trail Blazers (+150), Lakers (-182)
The Lake Show isn’t getting points tonight, so rule No. 23 goes out the window. But still, this line is very favorable for the Lakers, who have won 12 of 13. It would appear Anthony Davis is going to play and we know LeBron will be motivated going up against Melo. Los Angeles has covered in the past two tough road games, so I don’t see why they can’t do the same against Portland.
The Lakers play pretty good defense, but the Blazers are top 10 in points per game. Right now, the Lakers have the fourth highest implied point total at 114.25 with the Blazers at 106.25, both teams getting bet up by the public. Since the totals are trending up, I’m liking the OVER here. As for the money line, I’m fine going with the Lakers at decent odds considering they, again, have won 12 of the past 13 contests.
Prediction: Lakers 127, Blazers 118
Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James prop bets
Carmelo Anthony point total: 15.5
LeBron James point total: 26.5
To be top point scorer: LeBron (+200), Melo (+6600)
To score first field goal: LeBron (+450), Melo (+800)
Points, rebounds, assists total: LeBron (44.5), Melo (22.5)
The one number that sticks out to me is Melo 22.5 points + rebounds + assists total. I’d imagine Melo will want to stick it to LeBron, so I could honestly see him reach the OVER on this is points alone. All he would need is 16 points and seven rebounds to reach this, which seems reasonable.
I also think LeBron’s point total is favorable. This is mostly based on gut and narrative, but James generally hovers around this number. I also think Anthony Davis at some point will be limited a bit with the injury and illness, so if LeBron needs to step up, tonight may be that night.
