The Raiders and Titans come into this matchup on two different trajectories. Oakland has lost two games in a row while the Titans have won their last three. Before their previous two losses, the Raiders were in the final wild card spot, but now they are a game behind the Steelers and Titans. The Titans are the first team in the queue behind the Steelers, as they have the same record, but Pittsburgh currently owns the tie-breaker.

With four games remaining, the last AFC wild card spot could go to any of five teams, but right now, the Titans are playing the best football out of the five, while the Raiders are playing some of the worst.

Let’s take a look at the schedules for the top contenders for the last wild card spot:

Steelers: @Cardinals (3-8-1), Bills (9-3), @Jets (4-8), @Ravens (10-2)

Titans: @Raiders (6-6), Texans (8-4), Saints (10-2), @Texans (8-4)

Raiders: Titans (7-5), Jaguars (4-8), @Chargers (4-8), @Broncos (4-8)

Colts: @Buccaneers (5-7), @Saints (10-2), Panthers (5-7), @Jaguars (4-8)

A win by the Raiders would be an upset, as the Titans are favored by -3 on the road, but Oakland has played much better at home, and they face three 4 and 8 teams after the Titans. So, even though they have been bad of late, there’s plenty of reason to believe they could still make a push.

The Titans have played the best football of this group, but they also get the toughest schedule as well. But with a tough schedule come great reward too. If they could sweep the Texans, they’d likely win the division.

The Raiders have lost twice to the Chiefs, so they would need to pull off a minor miracle to win the AFC West at this point. They will need to take the wild card, and the Titans are one of the top teams they need to beat for that to happen.
