What to do with Bilal Powell, Ty Montgomery in fantasy football Week 14

Le’Veon Bell will miss Week 14 with an illness. Will any of his backups be worth starting in fantasy football this week?

Le’Veon Bell will miss Week 14 with an illness, which will promote Bilal Powell and Ty Montgomery as the main backs to take over the job. The question is, who will be the lead back or will they share the job 50/50?

Powell has had a slight lead in snap percentage over Montgomery this season. From Week 6 on, Powell has 17 percent of the snap share to Montgomery’s 11 percent. In that stretch, Powell has 35 touches to Montgomery’s 15, but Montgomery has eight targets to Powell’s seven. It looks likely that Powell will be the lead back with Montgomery serving more as a receiver and change-of-pace.

Fantasy football analysis: New York Jets RBs Bilal Powell, Ty Montgomery

If the Jets weren’t playing the Dolphins, I’d probably err on the side of caution and stay away from these two, but the Dolphins allow the fourth-most fantasy points to running backs on the season, the most rushing yards total, and the fourth-worst yards per carry at 4.7..

Powell isn’t going to win you your playoff game this week, but I do expect around 15 touches against one of the worst defenses against running backs in the league. That should be a safe play for most leagues. Montgomery’s usage is much riskier and I wouldn’t worry about him unless you are in a deep PPR league.

Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation

Start Powell.
Sit Montgomery.
