Jimmy Garoppolo, George Kittle, Emmanuel Sanders key 49ers shootout win over Saints

The 49ers won a wild one over the Saints behind a host of monster fantasy performances.

The San Francisco won an insane thriller over the New Orleans Saints in Week 14, edging them out 48-46 in one of the best games we’ll see in the NFL this season. Robbie Gould kicked a game-winning field goal, but this was all about Jimmy Garoppolo.

This was a wild back-and-forth affair from the get-go. The Saints jumped out to a 20-7 lead, before the 49ers came storming back with their passing attack. Garoppolo and Drew Brees combined for nine touchdown passes between them, and each threw for exactly 349 yards.

Both ground games were effective, with the 49ers averaging 6.8 yards per rush and the Saints averaging 4.3. And yet, it was through the air that decided this. Emmanuel Sanders led the 49ers with 157 yards receiving and a touchdown, but George Kittle had the most important catch of the day. He hauled in a 39-yard catch-and-run that set up the eventual game wining field goal. Add in a touchdown, and Kittle joins Garoppolo and Sanders in the running for most important player in this game.

It’s fitting that five of the top 13 DFS performances at DraftKings going into the late afternoon slate came from this game. Drew Brees is up top with 43.06 DKFP, followed by Emmanuel Sanders with 37.10, Michael Thomas with 33.40, Jimmy Garoppolo with 32.06, and Raheem Mostert with 24.90.

We can point to so many pivotal plays in this game, but recency bias will point to Kittle’s catch-and-run coupled with a face mask penalty.
