Washington running back Derrius Guice suffered a knee injury in the team’s Week 14 loss to the Green Bay Packers, and he is set to get an MRI on Monday, according to beat writer John Keim.
NFL Network reporter Tom Pelissero is reporting the preliminary diagnosis is a sprained MCL. He was off to a strong start with 42 yards on only five rushing attempts. Guice had been splitting reps with Adrian Peterson, but AP took on the workhorse role once Guice left. Peterson finished the game with 76 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries.
Fantasy football analysis: RBs Derrius Guice, Adrian Peterson
If the MRI shows an MCL sprain, odds are good Guice will miss at least one game. Considering his injury history, one would think Washington would shut him down the final three weeks to avoid any bigger issue. But, Dan Snyder’s organization has never really been known for making the best decisions.
If Guice does miss time, Peterson becomes the go-to guy for one or more of their remaining games. Washington hosts the Eagles and Giants these next two weeks. Both run defenses have been decent this year, but are solid matchups for most running backs. And if Guice is out, we know Peterson will get a sizable workload.
