UPDATE: The MRI revealed a strain but not a tear, according to Jenna Laine. It is not as bad as expected, but it is unlikely Evans plays again this season.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans blew past Indianapolis Colts cornerback Pierre Desir for a touchdown in Week 14, but he also suffered a hamstring on the 61-yard score. Evans left the game and was subsequently ruled out.
Evans will get an MRI on Monday to determine the extent of the injury, according to beat writer Jenna Laine. However, it sounds like it will simply confirm what Bruce Arians told the media following the game.
“It’s not good,” Arians said of Evans, adding that he’ll undergo more testing Monday. “I’ll be shocked if Mike makes it back before the last week.”
Fantasy football analysis: Bucs WR Mike Evans
Evans likely is done for the fantasy football playoffs. It upgrades fellow wide receiver Chris Godwin’s value, but also downgrades Jameis Winston with the loss of one his top playmakers.
Considering the Bucs are out of the playoff chase entirely, it’s possible they shut him down for the final three weeks to avoid the temptation that could result in an even more severe injury.
