The college football bowl season starts in just over a week, but before we get there, there’s some hardware to hand out. The Heisman Trophy will be awarded on Saturday, December 14th and on Monday, the finalists were announced.

There were no surprises in the group given how dominant they have been. This year’s finalists include LSU quarterback Joe Burrow, Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields, Ohio State pass rusher Chase Young, and Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts.

Burrow is the heavy favorite, entering last weekend’s conference championship game at -2000 to win the award at DraftKings Sportsbook. Fields and Young were next at +1200 and Hurts showed up at +4000. It would be one of the more stunning upsets in Heisman history if Burrow did not take home the award on Saturday.

The better question might be his margin of victory. According to the Heisman website, USC running back O.J. Simpson has the largest margin of victory at 1,750 points over Purdue running back Leroy Keyes.

Other areas where Burrow will dominate is most points as percentage of possible points and most ballots named as percentage of total ballots. Ohio State quarterback Troy Smith accrued 91.6 percent of the possible points in 2006. Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota was named on the largest percentage of ballots with 95.16 percent in 2014.

It’s been quite a road for Burrow this season. He entered the year at +6600 to win the Heisman. Fields and Hurts were each at +1400 to open the season, while Young didn’t even get on DK’s board until after Week 9. Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence was the preseason favorite at +175 followed by Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa at +225.
