FINAL UPDATE: Manning and the Giants offense went silent in the second half. He threw for 24 yards in the second half as the Eagles stormed back to win 23-17 in overtime.
UPDATE: Eli and the Giants are rolling now against the Eagles secondary. Manning connected with Darius Slayton on a 55-yard touchdown. Manning has thrown for 179 passing yards and two touchdowns.
The New York Giants have a lead late in the second quarter against the Philadelphia Eagles, and quarterback Eli Manning is having a throwback performance of sorts. Late in the second quarter, Manning has completed 8 of 13 passes for 110 yards and a touchdown.
The numbers don’t exactly scream superstar, but considering he was benched in Week 2 and had looked like he was playing with a fork sticking out of his back, it’s a nice return for Manning. He’s connected with Sterling Shepard and Darius Slayton three times apiece, and appears to have a solid deep ball chemistry with Slayton, connecting for 87 yards and a touchdown.
The Giants are 2-10 and playing for draft position and pride. Manning is likely in the final days of his time with the team. Daniel Jones could miss one or more additional games, so Manning is likely looking at a start next week in New Jersey. For now though, he and the Giants are looking to spoil the Eagles chance at climbing into a tie with the Dallas Cowboys atop the NFC East.
