Start or sit Chris Godwin in Week 2 TNF?

Will the Buccaneers slot receiver give your fantasy lineup a boost in Thursday’s game?

Chris Godwin was the only one who did not absolutely stink in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Week 1 loss to the San Francisco 49ers last week. The third-year receiver was the only player on the team with more than 50 receiving yards, and he scored the Bucs’ only offensive touchdown.

Godwin’s totals would have even better if quarterback Jameis Winston’s play hadn’t been so atrocious. And that’s going to be a question his fantasy owners are going to have to deal with all season (at least until Winston gets benched for Blaine Gabbert, which won’t help either).

The silver lining is that the Bucs are going to continue to lean on Godwin. Over the summer Bruce Arians made it clear that he intended to use No. 12 as much as he possibly could, pointing to his versatility. His ability to play multiple receiver roles aside, he will get most of his work out of the slot, which was the case last week.

Godwin is more than capable of being a nice part of a fantasy lineup, but the team’s consistency issues are going to leave you pulling your hair out week after week.

Fantasy Impact: San Francisco’s secondary looked unstoppable last week, even without the help Winston was too eager to provide. The Panthers shouldn’t be as tough, and Godwin is going to get his looks this week.

Recommendation: Start
