Editor’s update: The Bengals are optimistic Joe Mixon will play on Sunday vs. the 49ers, but he will test out his injured ankle in pre-game work, according to multiple reports. Mixon missed most of practice this week, but Ian Rapoport is reporting he took part in the team’s Saturday walk-through.

The Cincinnati Bengals listed running back Joe Mixon as questionable on the Friday injury report this week. He was with the team for Friday’s walkthrough, but a nagging ankle sprain is leaving fantasy owners with plenty of questions for this week’s game against the 49ers.

Mixon got his ankle rolled up on him during last week’s game against the Seahawks. Before he left for the day, he only managed to scratch out 10 yards on six rushing attempts. The Bengals left him out of practice all week until Friday.

It’s still unknown whether or not he will actually play this week, but taking part in the team’s final walkthrough is a step in the right direction. Even if he does play, he may be somewhat limited in how many touches he gets, meaning backup Giovani Bernard could split time in the backfield with Mixon.

A bigger problem for the Bengals is an offensive line that did not look very good last week. Not only does that limit what the running backs can do, it raises even more concerns about injuries going forward.

Fantasy Impact: This is a tough call. We don’t know for sure if Mixon will actually play, and if he does, we don’t know just how much work he’ll get. Probably best to avoid him this week.
