Despite a big performance from the Patriots’ offense in Opening Week, Sony Michel was not able to get in on the action. He carried the ball 15 times, leading to just 14 yards and no touchdowns. He wasn’t targeted in the passing game, which is to be expected. James White is the passing catching back for New England and the fantasy production for Michel is going to have to come on the ground.
The good news for Michel, this is the best possible spot for him to bounce back. The Dolphins looked like the worst team in the NFL by far last week, leading to the Patriots being a 19-point favorite. This sets up as an excellent game script for Michel. New England figures to be leading most of the game and look to grind out the clock with Michel in the second half. In his two games against Miami last season, Michel totaled 169 rushing yards and scored a touchdown.
Fantasy Impact: If you drafted Michel in the early rounds and aren’t starting him this week then when are you going to play him? He’s in the best possible game script with the best possible matchup. Last week was almost certainly his low point of the season although it was encouraging to see him get 15 touches despite struggling. Look at last week as a fluke and don’t panic unless he has another bad game in Week 2.
Recommendation: Start
