As important as it is to focus on finding the right value plays in your DFS lineup, the most important thing a DFS player must do, MUST DO, is avoid putting any dead weight into your teams, especially a high-priced player who busts. Here is a look at the trap plays at quarterback in Week 3. Tread lightly here, my friends!
BIG TICKET BUST
DeShaun Watson, Houston Texans at Los Angeles Chargers, $6,400: Watson and the Texans passing game had a major comedown after its thrilling Week 1 performance against the Saints. The Jaguars are far better known for pass defense and it showed, as Watson failed to account for any touchdowns on Sunday. You know who else is known for solid pass defense? Dak Prescott is only $100 more on DraftKings and Russell Wilson is $100 less. You’re welcome.
INJURY CONCERN
Carson Wentz, Philadelphia Eagles vs. Detroit Lions, $5,600: There’s the injury to Wentz himself – he appeared to get his ribs bruised early in Sunday’s game against Atlanta – and then there’s the injuries to all his top receivers. If DeSean Jackson and Alshon Jeffrey are unable to go this weekend, the Lions’ defense is plenty good enough to shut down the Nelson Agholors of the world. Monitor the plethora of news to come this week and prepare to find a different sub-$6K value.
RIGHT GAME, WRONG GUY
Cam Newton, Carolina Panthers at Arizona Cardinals, $6,000: We probably could have put Cam in the “Injury Concern” section, because there certainly appears to be an injury and we are definitely concerned. Newton did not look right at any point in last Thursday’s loss to the Bucs. It seems likely his throwing shoulder is a problem. Cam is not attempting any downfield passes and the fact he didn’t keep it on the 4th-and-1 late from the just outside the end zone is a real tell that he’s having issues. Arizona’s defense is saying, “Smash me,” to opposing QBs, but Cam just doesn’t seem up to the task right now.
I am a promoter at DraftKings and am also an avid fan and user (my username is jeffgo33) and may sometimes play on my personal account in the games that I offer advice on. Although I have expressed my personal view on the games and strategies above, they do not necessarily reflect the view(s) of DraftKings and I may also deploy different players and strategies than what I recommend above. I am not an employee of DraftKings and do not have access to any non-public information.
