Best defenses available for streaming feature Dolphins, Giants opponents

When in doubt, you’re wise to pick the team facing the Cowboys or Giants.

The NFL wrapped up Week 2 on Monday, and now it’s time for fantasy football owners to get their rosters set for Week 3. Whether you’re 2-0, 1-1, or 0-2, the fantasy waiver wire offers opportunities to improve your team. And if you’re not settled with one of the top handfuls of defense, you’re at least going to need to figure out your options for streaming this weekend. With that in mind, here’s a look at the best defensive options available in more than 50 percent of leagues, as tracked in ESPN leagues.

Dallas Cowboys (37.5 percent) — vs. Dolphins

They’re playing the Miami Dolphins. The Dallas defense has been fairly quiet the first two weeks, but again, they’re playing the Miami Dolphins. That’s reason enough to stream them this week.

San Francisco 49ers (14.2 percent) — vs. Steelers

The 49ers entered the 2019 season with questions about their secondary. That unit is stepping up in a big way, and the defense has looked like one of the better units in the league the first two weeks. The Bengals and Buccaneers are not the stoutest of competition, but if you’re streaming, Week 3 brings the Mason Rudolph-led Steelers to the Bay Area. Rudolph is an x-factor in replacing Ben Roethlisberger, but he’s an intriguing opponent to consider with his first career start coming on the road.

Green Bay Packers (7.1 percent) — vs. Broncos

The Packers are the fourth highest scoring defense through two weeks and they get a potentially juicy matchup in Week 3. Joe Flacco has taken five sacks, and while he only has one interception on the season, at some point he’s due for a stinker game. The Packers looked impressive against a Vikings offense that was strong in Week 1, so this bodes well for season-long success.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0.6 percent) — vs. Giants

Much like taking Dallas because of the Dolphins matchup, the Bucs are worth streaming because of their Giants matchup. It’s also worth noting the Bucs are the sixth highest scoring fantasy defense through two weeks, so you’re getting a productive unit for at least one week.
