Point spread, total, moneyline and more for Panthers-Cardinals in Week 3

The Panthers find themselves without Cam Newton in Week 3, and suddenly Kyler Murray and the Cardinals are a favorite. We break down some key odds numbers, including the point spread and past performances.

The Panthers are off to a disastrous start to the year. Not only are they 0-2 with a -9 point differential, but the health of Cam Newton is a serious issues heading into Week 3. He re-aggravated a foot sprain, and has been ruled out for the game. The team has said they don’t have a timeline yet for his return, which does not bode well.

The backup quarterback for the Panthers is Kyle Allen, who completed 59 percent of his passes and scored three touchdowns (one rushing) in a meaningless Week 17 game last year. He is likely not a solution. More importantly, it would allow the Cardinals to focus more on Christian McCaffrey, the main source of offense for the Panthers.

Arizona is a fairly impressive 0-1-1, and a breakout appears imminent for this young team led by a young head coach in Kliff Kingsbury. They had a late surge to tie in Week 1 against what appears to be a pretty good Detroit team, then lost a close game to the Ravens where the Cards (inexplicably) kicked three short field goals on fourth down instead of trying to find the endzone. This team is close. More importantly, Kyler Murray already looks to be an outright stud. He averaged 8.7 yards per attempt against a great Baltimore defense, and has over 650 yards passing in two games.
