Bruce Arians’ offense has gotten off to a rocky start in Tampa. QB Jameis Winston has looked inconsistent again, throwing too many interceptions while being wildly inefficient. Top WR Mike Evans has six catches on 13 targets for 89 yards through his first two games. The run game got it going last week vs. the Panthers with Peyton Barber notching 83 yards on 23 carries and a TD, but has otherwise been lackluster. TE O.J. Howard has been called out by Arians already and needs to be better.
That brings us to Chris Godwin, the third-year wideout from Penn State, the one constant in the Buccaneers’ attack early in the season. Godwin leads the team in just about every offensive category, receiving yards (174), touchdowns (2), yards per game (87.0), targets (15), big plays (5), the list goes on and on. This has led to 21.7 fantasy points per game in PPR formats, a number that should only increase with a cupcake matchup vs. the Giants.
Fantasy Impact: The New York “Football” Giants enter Week 3 having allowed the fourth most receiving yards per game (329) through two contests. They’ve been torched deep by Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup and John Brown, which profiles well for Godwin, who should see plenty of CB Grant Haley on Sunday. Haley profiles as one of the better matchups for a WR so far. Regardless, the rest of the Giants’ secondary is bad and Godwin has been lights out. If you have Godwin, he’s a lock this week. If you have any Bucs, they’re virtual locks this week.
