What to do with Aaron Rodgers in Week 4 fantasy football

The former MVP QB has voiced his displeasure with the offense so far, but can the Packers get things going through the air vs. the Eagles? We look at whether you should play or fade Rodgers in Week 4.

As a Packers fan and Aaron Rodgers enthusiast, I’m just as frustrated with the offense as the two-time MVP. Through three games, Green Bay sits at 3-0, but that’s largely thanks to a much-improved defense. As for Rodgers, well in terms of pure football he’s been fine, throwing for 647 yards and four TDs with zero INTs (96.5 QB rating). But in terms of fantasy football, Rodgers has left much to be desired. He hasn’t thrown for more than 235 yards in a game this season, very un-Rodgers-like. A-Rod also hasn’t gotten anything going on the ground — which isn’t exactly surprising given his injury history, but limits his upside. All of that equates to a paltry 13.9 fantasy points per game. On Yahoo, he’s 22nd among QBs in scoring in standard leagues, behind the likes of Jacoby Brissett, Marcus Mariota and even Gardner Minshew!

Fantasy Impact: Despite all those negatives from above, there’s some optimism heading into Thursday night against the Eagles. For one, Philly’s defense has been ravaged by injuries; CB Ronald Darby and DT Tim Jernigan are the latest to go down. The Eagles are also faltering on back-to-back losses while allowing the fourth-most passing yards per game (293.7) this season.

The Packers are generally better at home early in the season and historically TNF favors the home team on a short week. It’s not like Rodgers has been bad, he’s just been unable to string together an entire game. It should help that No. 1 WR Davante Adams should have a very favorable matchup, plus Marquez Valdes-Scantling has shown the ability to get open deep. It was sort of getting to the place where maybe you’re considering benching Rodgers. I think this is the week you roll him out and if he doesn’t get it done, start considering your options.
