Entering the season, Cleveland was a favorite not only for the AFC North, but to make the Super Bowl. Needless to say, the team has disappointed to open the year. They are 1-2, and have a -17 point differential. The offense, which led the league in yards per play after firing Hue Jackson and Todd Haley in 2018, has struggled greatly, yielding just 49 points through three weeks. They have a lot of work to do on that side of the ball.
Defensively they have been much better, giving up just 23 points the last two weeks. They have the seventh ranked pass defense according to Football Outsiders’ DAVE metric. However their 15th-ranked run defense will be tested greatly against a Ravens team averaging 5.9 yards per carry despite being second in the league in rush attempts.

Baltimore has been fantastic to start the year. They took their first loss of the year to the Chiefs, but they made it a game late through some great coaching and tough play. The Ravens are still +50 in point differential. This is one of the franchises making major strides in incorporating analytics, and it has certainly shown up in the results. The defense needs to play better if they want to make a real run at the Super Bowl though. They rank just 20th in DAVE pass defense. This week in particular they will need to slow down Odell Beckham, who continues to show us he is one of the best wideouts in football.
