Editor’s update 7:46 p.m.: The Tampa Bay Buccaneers won an insane one over the Los Angeles Rams in Week 4, putting up the highest scoring game of the young NFL season. The Bucs won 54-40, getting the victory in spite of Jameis Winston making a hideous decision late in the game, and in spite of Jared Goff throwing for over 500 yards. Goff made too many mistakes in a game that saw him throw three interceptions and lose a critical fumble late. The Bucs were a nine-point underdog in securing the outright win.

Tampa Bay is coming off of one of the more disappointing losses of the year. Ahead 28-10 at halftime against the winless Giants and their rookie quarterback, the Bucs squandered their lead in the waning moments of the game. Daniel Jones ran amok on Tampa, including the final touchdown of the game in the final two minutes. Despite that loss, the team has actually been fairly impressive defensively, allowing just 5.1 yards per play on the year, good for eighth in the league.

It is on offense where they have struggled most. Tampa Bay is just 20th in yards per play offense, though Jameis Winston is averaging eight yards per pass attempt, the best mark of his career. If he can cut down on the turnovers (four interceptions in three games) this offense could certainly pick up quickly.

The Rams continue to be part of the class of the NFL. Though they have not been nearly as efficient offensively, Los Angeles continues to be a stout defensive team. They are fourth in Football Outsiders’ DAVE metric. This has greatly helped the Rams to a +28 point differential, seventh-best in football. Now the team will go home, where Jared Goff has historically played much better. Since Sean McVay took over the club in 2017, Goff has averaged 1.25 more yards per pass attempt at home.
