How to handle A.J. Green injury in Week 4 MNF

Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green is sidelined with an ankle injury. Without a timeline for his return, we have to consider the longer-term fantasy implications.

The Cincinnati Bengals hit the quarter mark of the season this week with a Monday Night Football contest against their NFC North rivals, the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Bengals will continue to be without star wide receiver A.J. Green in Week 4, as he is continuing rehab on his ankle injury. He did not practice this week and was officially ruled out on Saturday.

Green injured the ankle at the start of training camp, and media reported a six to eight week window for his return. That would be right about now, but Green pushed back on the idea that he would be ready sooner rather than later. He said the injury would heal when it healed and he’s not sure where the notion came from of six to eight weeks.

Fantasy impact: Green is looking to get a new contract this coming offseason, so it makes sense to not come back early and aggravate the injury. October is just around the corner, so we could be looking at mid- or late-October before we see him back in action. Head coach Zac Taylor would not offer a timeline, so we’ll just have to wait and see what happens. In the meantime, John Ross and Tyler Boyd are the biggest beneficiaries, with both emerging as solid fantasy options.
