The New York Giants went through a roller-coaster of emotion in Week 3 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Rookie quarterback Daniel Jones made his first career start and led the G-Men to a huge comeback win. However, they also lost stud running back Saquon Barkley to a high ankle sprain in the second quarter.
Trainers helped Barkley to the locker room, and he was later spotted in a boot with crutches. Wayne Gallman replaced Barkley in the Giants backfield, rushing five times for 13 yards. Barkley has since had an MRI that revealed the high ankle sprain. The timeline is anywhere from four to eight weeks. The Giants have been conservative in their estimates, while Barkley believes he can beat the timeline.
There are extensive fantasy football and sports betting implications to consider following the injury. Gallman becomes a waiver wire favorite given the dearth of quality running backs in fantasy football at this point in the season. On the gambling side, the Giants are not expected to make noise, but losing Barkley certainly doesn’t help their weekly point spreads.
We’ll be breaking it all down during Barkley’s absence and eventual return.
