Damien Williams ($6,000) and Carlos Hyde ($5,000) enter this weekend’s divisional slate on DraftKings as two mid-tier running back options. By average DraftKings fantasy points (DKFP) per game, Williams was more productive, averaging 13.5 DKFP per game, compared to 10.4 DKFP per game for Hyde. Hyde out-touched Williams on a per game basis, getting about 16 touches per game, compared to 13 touches per game for Williams. However, Williams was more involved in the passing game, which is notable given DraftKings awards one-point per reception. Williams saw about 3.5 targets per game, compared to just one target per game for Hyde.
Fantasy football analysis: Chiefs RB Damien Williams, Texans RB Carlos Hyde
By yards allowed per carry, both the Chiefs and Texans had poor run defenses this season, with Kansas City allowing the fourth most yards per carry and Houston allowing the sixth most yards per carry. Both running backs should be in good position to be efficient given each team struggled at defending the run. However, game-script could impact Hyde. The Chiefs are heavy 9.5-point favorites on DraftKings Sportsbook, and if Houston falls behind by multiple scores, the Texans could turn to pass-catching back Duke Johnson ($4,700) for expanded snaps and touches.
With the Chiefs big home favorites, Williams is probably the better option here, especially against a Texans defense that allowed the sixth most DKFP to RB during the regular season. Houston was also burned through the air by running backs, allowing the fourth most receptions to RB and most receiving TD to RB, which is notable given Williams’ ability to catch passes. Williams led Chiefs RBs in targets per game, receptions per game and receiving TDs during the regular season.
