Atlanta Hawks PF Chandler Parsons was struck by a drunk driver who is being charged with a DUI and suffered a traumatic brain injury, herniated disc and torn labrum in the accident. His playing status is currently unclear.

Parsons has only appeared in five games this season for the Hawks. He had been out while nursing a concussion, first reported by Yahoo Sports’ Chris B. Haynes back on Jan. 15. We had no clue the car accident was this serious and that Parsons may not be able to play basketball again. Parsons had been out due to wrist inflammation prior to the accident. We wish Parsons a speedy recovery and hope he can make it back on the court again. This is truly horrible news.

Parsons has played nine seasons in the NBA for the Hawks, Memphis Grizzlies, Dallas Mavericks and Houston Rockets. He had his best season back in 2013-14 with Houston, averaging 16.6 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists over 74 games. He parlayed that season into a bridge deal with the Mavs before signing a four-year, $94 million extension with the Grizzlies in 2016. Unfortunately, he was able to stay healthy in Memphis and was dealt to the Hawks as a salary dump this past July.
