Patrick Mahomes gets heavy action for Super Bowl MVP

Who have bettors been on for Super Bowl MVP since the Championship games went final? We break down the betting split two days into the Super Bowl bye week.

Since Championship Sunday, the bettors at DraftKings Sportsbook have been all in on Patrick Mahomes to win Super Bowl LIV MVP. 43 percent of the handle and 23 percent of the wagers have been on Mahomes, who is currently at +115. That gives us $1.15 on the dollar if Mahomes wins. On the other hand, betting the Chiefs to win straight up is at -122 — a strong requirement for Mahomes to win the MVP award — pays out $.82 on the dollar. The difference is significant, but is it enough to risk no other player from the Chiefs winning the MVP?

49ers tight end George Kittle is next on the minds of MVP bettors, as he has seen 14 percent of the handle and 12 percent of all bets with his odds at a healthy +1600. Possibly the best offensive player on the team, Kittle has been used as a blocker instead of receiver in the playoffs, as the 49ers have run over their opponents, not needing to throw. But, a matchup with the Chiefs in a game where the point total continues to rise, now at 54, Kittle is likely to be needed as a receiver more — and at those odds, he is extremely tempting.

Raheem Mostert’s huge game in the NFC Championship, you know, the one where he rushed for 220 yards and four touchdowns, got bettors excited at +900, especially after Tevin Coleman hurt his shoulder. A game where the 49ers continue their dominance on the ground is a good possibility against a weak Chiefs run defense, while Matt Breida is persona non grata to Kyle Shanahan at the moment and Coleman will at least miss practice time with his separated shoulder.

You can see how bettors are attacking the MVP question over the last day. You can make an argument for each of these players, as this game has many scenarios to choose from this year.
