How to handle betting on Clippers vs. Mavericks

We’ve got just one game to focus on for Tuesday, so let’s break down how to deal with the lines and spreads on DraftKings Sportsbook.

Since almost every team played on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we’ve only got one game for Tuesday. The Los Angeles Clippers will head to Dallas to take on the Mavericks in what should be a solid matchup of two MVP candidates: Luka Doncic and Kawhi Leonard. Here we’ll take a look at the odds, point spread and some player props on DraftKings Sportsbook. First, here’s a table courtesy of DK Sportsbook with an early breakdown.

Clippers vs. Mavericks Betting Splits

Team Odds % Handle % Bets
Team Odds % Handle % Bets
Clippers (+1) -112 52% 67%
Mavericks (-1) -109 48% 33%
O 229 -112 19% 65%
U 229 -109 81% 35%
Clippers -105 64% 71%
Mavericks -113 36% 29%

So the percentage of the handle tells us that the game is essentially a toss up, with more bettors leaning in favor of the Clippers getting points against a team that is inferior (but not by much). It’s also notable that the majority of bettors are on the UNDER of 229, which has since moved up to 232.5. If so much handle is on the UNDER earlier on and the line has moved up, it would seem sticking with the UNDER is the move. Los Angeles is generally a strong defensive team and we still don’t know if Kristaps Porzingis is going to return tonight.

So if we look at how the spread is now at +1.5 for L.A. and that everyone is seemingly on the OVER, I think this is a strong spot to target the Clippers to cover/win and the UNDER to hit. Paul George (hamstring) is out, but last time the Clips faced the Mavs in Dallas, they won 114-99. That was with Dallas fully healthy — which they may not be tonight. L.A. has won three in a row while Dallas has won four straight. I think it’s an even matchup that can go either way and both teams are decent enough defensively to keep the game UNDER.
